Commander in Chief Ball 2005 |
Texas is a very large and
proud state with very outspoken residents and diverse musical
tastes. It should have come as no surprise (but it was) when in
the mid 1990’s our company booked Vikki Carr (Texas Latino Super
legend) for a corporate event in South Texas where |
| then
Governor George W. Bush was the keynote speaker. The event was a
big success and the |

Governor’s staff took notice of our company’s
capabilities in talent and production coordination. This was
followed by various smaller statewide events and then the Governor’s
re-election Galas in Jan. 1999. Again with near flawless execution
at multiple locations and a variety of talent, we really set
ourselves up for “the future” but had no idea what that would be.
On Oct. 15, 2000 we were contacted by the Governor’s office and with
three weeks notice, solely and exclusively produced the Nov. 7, 2000
(election night) event in Downtown Austin in front of the Capitol
and seen on TV by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide. What an
invaluable experience interfacing with everyone from Secret Service
to Diane Sawyer to over 200 media from around the globe, not to even
mention coordinating and scheduling all entertainers and video. |
| Then after this remarkable evening and 36 days later (when there was
finally an election outcome) we were summoned to Washington D.C., to
do the president elect’s “Welcome to Washington DC Inaugural Event
at the Lincoln Monument”!! This show was live on CNN and included

Martin, Larry King, dozens more, and
countless politicians. Then overnight we pulled out all the “jumbo trons” and set-up FIVE locations around the national capitol for the
first time ever live I-MAG was on these “hallowed grounds” for the
swearing in ceremonies! What a total sensory overload dealing with
Capitol police, Secret Service, and a half dozen other controlling
factors that did not give a hoot about our agenda, or those I
represented. Naturally it snowed, was 19 or 20 degrees and
protestors threw tomatoes (they get real hard at those temps) at our
jumbos! (sure glad when that one ended and we got back to Texas
after about a month there).
Then we were asked to do Governor Rick Perry’s Inaugurals at
the Austin Convention Center in 2003 (and 2007) which seemed
|
easy after the D.C. experience, as well as three different
Presidential Inaugural events in 2005 including the
Commander-In-Chief Ball at the National Building Museum.
What started out 20 years earlier with small bands in clubs and
colleges was now full blown talent, production, television and stage
management for some of the most influential people on the planet!!! |
